Morning Exchange
Dad, upon observing two dead-ass daughters laying around the living room: "It's Mother's Day, you should make mom breakfast in bed."
Girls:
Dad: "Do we have cinnamon rolls? Mom likes those."
Robyn: "Yeah, mom pointed those out yesterday."
Dad: "Probably because she wants them this morning."
Girls:
Dad: "Someone should go into the kitchen and make Mom some cinnamon rolls. He said pointedly, with a hint of suggestion in his voice."
Rachael: "Huh? Sorry dad, I was zoned out."

You know that's a scene from
Frau im Mond, right? And that the model rocket being examined was considered top secret by the Nazis? It's since disappeared; some think it was destroyed intentionally by the Nazis and others think it was destroyed during a bombing raid.
I liked Josephine the mouse. For some reason, the IMDB doesn't mention her, though Fritz Lang gave her screen credit...
Also, Fritz Lang invented the countdown for that movie.

Lyndie England
She's about to be sentenced for her role in the Abu Gharib prison abuses. This might be the first time I've mentioned the whole mess, but I'll say this much now:
When she pled guilty, Lyndie England didn't flinch or try to deflect the blame. She said that she knew it was wrong, and caved to peer pressure to participate. Once again, she admitted that she knew it was wrong, yet she chose to do it anyway.
That's called personal responsibility, and it's far more than Sergeant "Military Intelligence ordered us to do it" Graner has shown.
I hope that her sentence is less harsh because of her admission. It was wrong, it was stupid, but still, my respect for her has gone up a notch.

Lyndie, the whole prison scandal thing may have been the brainchild of your superiors but that burnt out, middle aged, depressed Peppermint Patty look is all you baby!HAHAHA!!!!
No,seriously though I agree 100%.It's just too bad the noose only stopped at her.She goes to prison for this,Martha goes to prison for "lying" to the gov? What about Lyndies boss'?What about when gov lies to us?It doesn't take much to see the double standard here.Of course these are only a couple of the more publicized cases.

What was the final decision on the Lydie England fiasco? The last I heard she was going to be retried, but then the information flow stopped. I hope she and all the other SOBs hang for it. Of all places to use women to sexually demoralize men, it has to be the ONE place where they will hold another grudge against America!

I'm an Old Testament kinda God
One of my Christmas presents was Sims2, which nobody played because none of our computers at home had enough horsepower to run it. Since we got the laptop, it's become the Sims machine when not being used for anything else.
I've futzed around with it for a few hours over the last couple of weeks, and on Monday night I killed my first Sim. He was a whiney snot and I got tired of his attitude. The killing part wasn't fun and I was amazed that his bladder lasted longer than his little electron heart.
People all over are playing God in these virtual worlds, but to me it's like a horrible training program on how not to take care of someone. Like, oh... the elderly? It strikes me as singularly stupid that we've given youngsters the means to refine and perfect their cruelty when it comes time to deal with an aging Mom and Dad.
Maybe I've just been in a mood lately, but a home isn't looking like such a bad thing any more.

It's the soft background color and recipes I bet
The latest meme I've seen around (
Gir was first) is something about "How gay is your website". I submitted
Rocket Jones and it came back with "50% gay - at least bisexual".
That surprised me, what with all the zombies and rockets stuff lately. My wife might be right. She says I'm overcompensating. Plans to redecorate the place have been scrapped, although I am thinking about building a deck off of the right sidebar. With a built in grill. And a beer cooler. With a tap.
Not that there's anything wrong with "bisexual" (he says in a deep manly voice while scratching himself). Especially if you're a woman.

Let me clarify things real quick here. It's not that I totally hate George or anything but I just think he's better as an actor.I call it the Dennis Miller syndrome.
As far as Mama Mia goes,I fully understand.Like I said once before when I get an ABBA tune in my head I usually have the video clip to go with it so I don't mind a bit.
Speaking of songs stuck in the head, thanks a bunch Nic!Now I'll be listening to the oldies station forever until I hear Time of the Seasons.Best cure for getting a song out of your head is to finally hear it IMHO.

I forget which channel it was, but it had to be one of those educational ones...
I was puttering around the house last night, half-watching some documentary about teaching youngsters or something like that. This caught my ear:
Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina.
Anatomy? Sex-ed? Either way, those kids were way too young for that.

As Mookie would say, "That was random"
Just some thoughts.
I hate going to WalMart during the day, because all the senior citizens are there. Yesterday I watched a lady who probably shared a nice piece of fish with Christ himself on the mount as she tottered through the crosswalk. She was clutching her cart for dear life, and I'm positive it was the only thing holding her up. About a third of the way across (a two minute journey, I kid you not), she was almost flattened by another woman in a Cadillac who probably taught female gladiators to drive chariots in ancient Rome. That's entertainment. Like watching the Keystone Kops in slo-mo.
When I get old enough to drive a golf cart, I'm putting wheelie bars on the back.
Mookie's imagination has been fired by the speculative piece about Canada breaking up and parts joining the US, and now the Cambodian zombie story. She's been wandering through the house singing "Invade Canadaaaaaaah, with Zombies from Cambodiaaaaaah." She's such a special child.
It's looking like tomorrow is not going to be a go for the Culpeper rocket launch, due to a really lousy weather forecast. That's a personal decision, I'm sure there will be folks there and some flights will be made. I'm still on for Sunday though, which is supposed to be beautiful.
I may be putting a large "Sears sucks donkey dicks" banner up soon. Next week will tell the tale. Whatever happened to customer service?
Instead of sitting here, I should be cleaning something.

BTW if you think that Sears blows as a customer, try dealing with them as a contractor.Did the people in Alexandria give you trouble?Landmark?Maybe they'll all see poetic justice and be reassigned to K-Marts.HA!

Snippet of Conversation
Driving through Norfolk yesterday:
Me: Look! The sign says they need a bartender. I could do that again.
(driving by and noticing that the place looks a little "rough")
Me: I dunno though, a black belt is probably part of the job qualifications.

I love technology
Liz and I are visiting daughter Robyn down south in Norfolk tomorrow to pick up a load of her stuff. She's spending the summer at home, and she'd have to make a half dozen trips in her tiny little car to haul everything.
So we decided to make it a getaway and booked a room in Williamsburg for the night. Robyn has a final tomorrow afternoon, so we'll hit Williamsburg Pottery and have a nice relaxing morning before heading on in. We both needed this.
I have to admit that Liz knows how to get the best deals on rooms too. I'm posting this from the laptop, hooked up to the wireless network offered by the motel.
And now you'll have to excuse me, the hot tub is calling.

We used to have a teacher in our elementry school who used to organize the annual 7th grade week long field trip to Williamsburg every year. Our class go treated to an extra three days due to sudden snow. Most of the stuff was shut down.A bunch of rambunctious little bastards like us locked in a hotel for several days?Long story short they told our group not to come back next year.
Anyhow,I have loved Williamsburg ever since.I've been a couple of times since then.I am really hoping to be able to go during Christmas.NYC,Germany and Bergen are also high on the 'spend Christmas there" list.
My fave shop was the riflesmiths shop. The waiting list is so long that if I had ordered one of their flintlocks back then I may have it by now.The leather shop and the printers was pretty cool, too.Watch out for the devil's tail!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Life has been kicking my ass lately. Yeah, I know that's not news. It happens to everyone, but I offer it up as the lame excuse for the light posting on
Rocket Jones, both in quantity and quality.
This morning my XHTML final is due. We were given a set of specs and a bunch of content and turned loose to whup it into a site. It's got image maps (those pretty pictures you click in different areas for links), input forms, lists inside lists, tons of text formatting and anything and everything else the instructor could think of to toss in there. Individually, nothing too difficult. Except that we're doing this all from scratch - no Front Page, no Movable Type or Blogger. Every last bit of code is by hand. Believe me, finish a test like this (10+ hours for me so far, mostly at home in the evenings), and you freakin' know XHTML.
Daniel, I haven't forgotten the meme you tossed to me. I just haven't had a chance to give it any thought. Although when I do come up with something, I'll be able to format it beautifully. Heh.
Ooooooooooooklahoma! - Mookie's school musical - opened last night. She said it went well. Liz and I are going tonight.
Everyone else in the family (wife, kids... not the dogs, so not everyone), has had some sort of drama or minor tragedy happen this week (I'm not trivializing the tragedy aspects, it's minor in that nobody died). I'm rather proud as I watch events unfold and see how everyone keeps their cool and just deals with the crap that life dishes up sometimes. Maintaining composure and doing the right thing doesn't mean you're unfeeling, it just means that you can save the tears or hurt or frustration for later, when it won't be so inconvenient to let it out.
So the weekend is upon us. Things to do are already piling up like cop cars in a Blues Brothers movie, and I'll just take things one at a time and do as many as I can until the critical ones are taken care of or I decide that enough is enough and it's time for a nap.
I'll try to do better, but no promises for the immediate future.

Re: light posting
-- That's one thing I hate about the supposed rules of blogging... having to post once/day at least. I say hogwash -- post whenever you can/want. The curveballs of life are much more important than blog posts... not that I'm telling you anything you don't know already. Naps are great for a quick dusting of the sometimes overwhelming brain matter too. :-)
Re: HTML
